Veteran Lyricist Gulzar was chosen today for the prestigious
Dada Saheb Phalke Award for the year 2013. This award is considered as the
highest recognition awarded to film personalities in India. This award is given
to film personalities for giving their lifetime contribution to Indian Cinema.
Gulzar is well known for penning memorable hits like 'Tujhse
Naaraaz Nahi Zindagi' and 'Tere Bina Zindagi Se Koi Shikwa Nahi'. He has also
directed highly praised films like 'Mausam' and ‘Aandhi’.
Dada Saheb Phalke Award was first introduced in the year 1969
which is the birth centenary year of Dadasaheb Phalke. Dadasaheb Phalke is
considered as the father of Indian Cinema and the Dada Saheb Phalke Award is
given after his name to recognize the contribution of personalities towards
development of Indian Films.
Gulzar is 79 years old Lyricist and filmmaker. He will be 45th
personality to receive this award. Some of his popular films are Angoor,
Khushboo, Libaas, Kosish, Mere Apne and Maachis.
