Finnish Telecom Company Nokia and Japanese company NTT DoCoMo will team
up in research and standardization of fifth generation (5G) technologies and
work jointly on a 5G proof of concept (PoC) system.
The proclamation made by the
network division of Nokia, Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) said that this
move builds on the MoU signed by the two companies in January this year to
research future radio access experimental systems.
The company said that to take care
of the demand for great capacity and performance, future 5G networks will need
to conquer the challenges that will become appropriate for operators, such as
ensuring cell-edge rates in abundance of 100 Mbps and diminishing latency by a
factor of 10.
The CTO of NTT DoCoMo, Seizo Onoe
said that they have chosen Nokia as their partner for the 5G research project
based on its clear vision and also its widespread mobile broadband experience
and technology leadership.
The executive vice president and
CTO of NSN, Hossein Moiin said that by expanding their collaboration with NTT
DoCoMo on 5G radio technology is an important step towards defining future
mobile networks.
